Leaders of Tomorrow
HopeCo
Hope Is
Human stories that unite
Tanzania and Kenya
At Mwendo, we have partnered with HopeCo since its inception to tell the stories of impact and change in the lives of vulnerable children in Tanzania and Kenya. HopeCo is close to our hearts because we believe so much in their vision, and it is where Mwita met his wife, Monica! They were there from the beginning when The City of Hope (the site in Tanzania) opened its doors to the first children. That experience sparked Mwita’s passion for storytelling, and he has been doing so ever since!
The City of Hope is located in Ntagacha, Tanzania, the village where Mwita’s father, Dr. John Chacha, grew up. His dad started the organization to address the needs that he saw in the community and to raise a generation of changemakers. In 2014, we created the film “Giving Hope,” which tells the origin of The City of Hope and casts the vision of Dr. Chacha to raise up the leaders of tomorrow in Tanzania and across the world. That film went on to win the Storytelling Parade Film Competition’s cinematography award! That would also be the last time we would have the opportunity to interview Dr. Chacha, as he passed away several months later, but his legacy remains!
Over the years, we have told countless stories of the impact and change that HopeCo is having in the lives of children and the community. Our films have been used to engage donors, from nursing students at Duke University to executives at penthouse events in New York City, and have been utilized in matching gift campaigns of more than $250,000.
It has been a joy to work and grow alongside HopeCo and help them expand their reach to an even wider audience. HopeCo exists to create transformed lives and flourishing communities across East Africa and beyond, and we have been able to document just that!
